TALL LIGHTHOUSE

with readings from Helen Mort & Sonya Smith plus OPEN MIC.
~ Featuring music from Bitter Ruin
~

Komedia Studio Bar, Regent Street, Brighton

£5/£4 (Friends of THE SOUTH £4/£3)

Helen Mort’s poems are tender and intriguing, filled with subtle yet memorable images. She writes with an easy maturity and is a welcome new presence. Helen was a winner of the Foyle Young Poets Award on five occasions from 1997 to 2004 and her work has been published in a variety of publications including The Rialto, The Times Educational Supplement and in several Poetry Society pamphlets.

Sonya Smith had been writing poetry for a while before she realised that she didn't have to be 'in love' or 'heartbroken' to create a decent poem. (She now believes these states may have actually been a hindrance due to their being complete fabrications of the heart). She has gone on to spend some time under the wings of skilled poets and is a founder member of Brighton group 'P.S. Writers'; reading in and around the area.
