Ray Hollinsgworth

Ray Hollingsworth only needed a single rejection letter from a leading UK poetry publisher in 1998 to make him decide to form his own company to release his alternative and groundbreaking work.

The Erotic Cafe ( 1999 ), The Pornstar and the Priest ( 2001 ) and Blueprint for Life ( 2004 ) are the results so far. Against all the odds, and in what is becoming a declining market in terms of sales, Ray's titles are now among the best selling poetry books in the country. This has been achieved with the support of the leading chains who have given the titles a core stock status and by innovative use of retail environments such as hair & beauty salons, and music stores.

Ray Hollingsworth is 51 and lives in Colchester. He has written 3 alternative poetry titles and is currently writing his fourth. The latest book 'Blueprint for Life' was produced as a result of a £26,000 remortgage on his home. Although 'Blueprint' is likely to be the best selling poetry collection in the UK this year the financial returns on sales of poetry books are fairly insignificant.

Ray's company Kiss Production Limited was formed in 1999 with the orginal intent of just publishing his own work. However in the last 6 months he has started to publish the work of others - but not in book form, nor in an on-line environment. Ray uses his experience as an art director to bring the work of others alive with innovative design and simple marketing ideas.

Unlike most readers of poetry Ray describes how the whole process of publishing, marketing, distribution and retail operation came together in getting his books into chainstores and onto core stock ordering systems. He also speaks in depth about how British songwriting has influenced his work and is in personal contact with many great songwriters who have been kind enough to give an insight into how lyrics have evolved.

Tracey Fuller

Tracey Fuller has recently won the 2003 Biscuit Prize for short fiction with her story 'The system was turned on' which is published in the anthology 'The Sensitively Thin Bill of the Shag'. She was also a runner up for the 2002 Biscuit Prize and had her story 'The Shower' published in the anthology 'From Belize to Havana'. She has read her work at the prestigious Voice Box at the Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank and at the Middlesex University Literature Festival and has stories published in Middlesex University press.

She is writing a novel which takes a lifeboat crew, a vintage car and a diving show through the Great War. It is based in Sussex in a coastal town which is not unlike Newhaven! She was recently brave enough to read at the Charleston Short Story Slam, part of The Small Wonders Festival, and was short listed. She has just completed her Creative Writing MA at Middlesex University as well as finding time, with her husband, to ride Daisy their tandem around Sussex and look after their new baby.

Her novella 'The Silver Vessel', is to be published by Biscuit Publishing at Christmas 2004, ISBN 1-903914-17-5
