Mark Ford
Mark Ford was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1962. He has published two collections of poetry, ‘Landlocked' (Chatto & Windus, 1992, rpt. 1998), and ‘Soft Sift' (Faber & Faber, 2001 / Harcourt Brace, 2003). He has also written a critical biography of the French poet, playwright and novelist Raymond Roussel, (‘Raymond Roussel and the Republic of Dreams') which was published by Faber & Faber in 2000, and by Cornell University Press in 2001.
He is a regular contributor to the ‘New York Review of Books' ‘Times Literary Supplement' and ‘The London Review of Books'. His most recent publications are an anthology of the work of the New York School writers, John Ashbery, Frank O'Hara, Kenneth Koch, and James Schuyler, (Carcanet) and a book-length interview with John Ashbery, published by Between the Lines. He teaches in the English Department at University College London.
Sharon Zink
Coming from a Brazilian-German and English background, Sharon Zink survived an abusive childhood to become Young Poet of the Year at the age of seventeen. She consequently published a collection entitled Rain in the Upper Floor Café, then spent three years working in a variety of colourful jobs (from waitress to art dealer) and travelling Europe, before reading English at Queen Mary, University of London where she graduated top of her year.
Pursuing an academic career, she studied for her master's degree in Renaissance Literature at Jesus College, Cambridge, afterwards returning to Queen Mary to research with Professor Lisa Jardine, being awarded her Ph.D. in 2001. Having lectured at various universities, Sharon now teaches part-time while pursuing her passion for writing. Her short story "Lobsters" won the Writers Inc. Writers of the Year Competition in 2003 and she has recently completed her first novel, Sharonville, which The Literary Consultancy has described as "a union between Douglas Coupland and Anne Tyler." She is currently working on her second novel, The Red Umbrella.
Aisling O'Gorman
Aisling O'Gorman is a writer and singer from Ireland who has been living on the south coast for the past few years. She spends most of her time teaching singing and writing to adults and children, running her own community choir called Get Vocal, and writing for the local newspaper.
She is currently involved in a writing project for the London Jazz festival. Her poetry, stories and songs have appeared in both anthologies of the Chichester based Tongues and Strings evenings. And when taking a break from all things arty-farty, she can be seen wobbling along in her new rollerblades!
Here's what poet Vicky Fever said about my poems:
‘They are wonderfully imaginative, stretching language in a way that poetry should. All of them are vivid and impress by the sound and energy of their language. You have woven the material to create poems that have a real presence.' |
