SUCK IT AND SEE
A poetry taster workshop with acclaimed poet Catherine Smith
SATURDAY 21 FEBRUARY 11AM-3PM

Joogleberry Playhouse, 14-17 Manchester Street, Brighton BN2 1TF
Come and whet your appetite on a poetry workshop day on the theme of food led by prize-winning poet and experienced poetry tutor, Catherine Smith. We will look at the ways in which different poets have explored food as a theme and ask 'what lies beneath' - what do food and drink symbolise in poetry? We'll use this as the hors d'oeuvres for your own writing. Suitable both for those new to writing poems and more experienced poets. Come with writing materials, an open mind and a healthy appetite. (The lunchtime menu at Joogleberry's is superb.)
Catherine Smith writes poetry and prose, and is a tutor for Sussex University and West Sussex's Able Children Enrichment Programme. Her first short poetry collection, The New Bride, was short-listed for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and her new full-length book, The Butcher's Hands, received a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. She was recently judged as being 'one of the ten best female poets to have emerged in Britain in the last ten years.' Her favourite food is strong cheddar, preferably served with high-baked water biscuits, red grapes and dry white wine. |
