PENELOPE SHUTTLE / KESTON SUTHERLAND

Penelope Shuttle's first collection of poems, The Orchard Upstairs, was published in 1981 (Oxford University Press). Since then she has published six other volumes, plus a Selected Poems in 1998, all from Oxford. Three of her books are Poetry Book Society Recommendations, including her most recent, A Leaf Out of His Book, 1999, Oxford Poets/Carcanet. Her new collection, Redgrove's Wife, appears in 2006. She has received a Radio Times Drama Bursary Prize, The Greenwood Poetry Prize, and Eric Gregory Award, three Arts Council Awards, and an Author's Foundation Grant.

Keston Sutherland is an outspoken opponent of those mainstream British poets who have long dismissed the experimental poetry associated with J. H. Prynne and the L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E poets of America. His own explosive and challenging poetry is collected in works such as Antifreeze and The Rictus Flag. He edits Quid, a journal of poetics and critical theory.
